Bellevue: Eastgate and Somerset Charm
Travelers I’ve met from around the world often call the Pacific Northwest the most beautiful place on earth. When I ask why, they point to its abundant outdoor activities, striking scenery, and remarkable wildlife. I grew up in Washington and, for better or worse, have never lived elsewhere. After traveling extensively across the country and abroad, I agree: awe-inspiring mountains, lakes, rivers, and landscapes are often within a 30-minute drive. It’s easy to see why visitors speak so highly of our state.
The Golden Triangle
I grew up primarily in Eastgate and Redmond, two communities near Seattle. Eastgate, part of Bellevue, borders the informally named “Golden Triangle”—the Kirkland-Redmond–Bellevue tech corridor. It is located along I-90 and 405. It provides commuters with convenient access to this major employment hub.
Community Roots and Local Giving
The other day, I stopped by St. Margaret’s Thrift Shop, a boutique I visited often with my mom. St. Margaret’s has been a volunteer-run community thrift shop since 1977, donating 100% of its net profits to local and regional nonprofits—more than $1.5 million to date!
Scenic Living in Somerset
The warm, sunny fall weather then inspired me to tour open houses in the Somerset neighborhood, known for its natural beauty, hills, and views. Many homes along the Somerset Ridge overlook the Seattle skyline, Lake Washington, and the Olympic Mountains. Before heading home, I visited a nearby park where my sister and I would play. Although much has changed, much still feels familiar. It was a wonderful autumn outing and a reminder of all that Eastgate and Somerset continue to offer homeowners.
Top-Rated Bellevue Schools
Families have access to the Bellevue School District. Somerset Elementary (my school), Tyee Middle School, and Newport High School consistently rank among Washington’s top public schools.
Connected, Convenient, and Close to Nature
Near the I-90 and I-405 interchange, the area provides convenient routes north to Downtown Bellevue’s tech hubs, west to Seattle, and east to Issaquah and the Cascades. The nearby Eastgate Park & Ride offers reliable regional bus service for commuters who prefer not to drive. Coal Creek Natural Area features miles of forested trails and waterfalls, while the South Bellevue Community Center at Eastgate Park offers indoor fitness facilities, sports courts, and a local zipline course. The neighborhood is peaceful and well established with high homeownership, and many long-term residents.
Eastgate Real Estate Value
Although homes typically range from $1.2 million to more than $3 million, Eastgate can offer a more accessible entry into Bellevue real estate than waterfront neighborhoods or West Bellevue. Properties also tend to feature larger lots and classic mid-century characteristics.
If you’re looking for an agent who knows and loves this part of the Eastside, please reach out to me. I would be honored to assist you in your real estate needs.
